Read through the bible in a year

June 2024 - may 2025

Join Pastor David in reading through the Bible in a year!

We’ll begin in Genesis and carry on through Revelation, reading 23 chapters a week (or 3 a day on weekdays and 4 a day on weekends). Each Sunday he’ll preach on whatever we have read the past week. This will be a way for us to not only develop the habit of daily Bible reading but also to understand the larger story of the Bible as a whole.

Plan

  1. Read through (or listen to) 3 chapters on weekdays and 4 on weekends. (Genesis - Revelation has 1,189 chapters)
  2. Read through (or listen to) 23 chapters a week.
  3. Read (or listen) for 12 minutes a day or 84 minutes a week. (The average audio Bible is 72 total hours).
  4. Read a certain number of pages a day. (Take the total number of pages from Genesis through Revelation and divide it by 365. For example, one Bible has 1,383 pages - this would mean either four pages a day or 27 pages a week.)

You could plan to simply read/listen, or you could, as you go along, plan to also read the notes and commentary provided, and even write down in your margins or journal notes, questions and ideas needing further research.

Plan now to take up the challenge! Work now to secure a Bible dedicated for this year: consider a Bible (either printed or digital) of a different translation, with plenty of embedded notes and commentary, extended helps in the back. Perhaps you want to get a digital Bible that will read the chapters to you. Or perhaps you want to read a special or heirloom Bible, maybe even one with notes by a loved one.

Other options

You may also want to consider equipping yourself with additional resources.

These could include:

  1. The Bible Project A free, online source with video introductions to each book of the Bible.
  2. The Video Bible - A free audio + video cover-to-cover reading of the Bible (still incomplete).
  3. The Grand Sweep: 365 Days from Genesis through Revelation by J. Ellsworth Kalas (Available at many online sources.) A reading program with embedded commentary.
  4. Join Connect Groups during the year ahead studying the Bible’s themes, particular issues and various passages and stories.
